IS IT THE GATE MONEY?

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— l should be much obliged if you could inform me what is the object of the Manawatn and West Coast A. and P. Association. I was under the impression that it was to show what the connfcry was capable of producing, and to encourage the improvement of stock, etc., but, judging from the late show, I ' was wrong. Take, for example, " the Jerseys." First, a prize was given for the heaviest weight of milk for one milking from one cow. Not a word abouttest. The weight was, I believe, about 301bs Ist prize. Supposing that cow's test was 3*o then no ordinary factory supplier would have l^pt her. Again, I noticed the Shorthorn bulls were carefully housed. For why? What is the making of the West Coast and Mauawatu ? I think lam right in saying the butter iudustry. If so, why treat the Jerseys in such a secondary • way. It certainly is not the way to ■'induce local farmers to take an interest in the welfare of the Show. Coming nearer home. Why, at the ' late Flower Show in Feilding, was a< ">. ■ prize given for bouquets made up by ? " '*■ children attending the State schools, said bouquets to be made up under the supervision of the teachers, therefcy giving a prize to the teachers, no credit to the children, and excluding other youngsters equally fond of flowers 1 I am, etc., Grumbler.
