0 At a time when tbe practice of dehorning cattle is causing some attention among farmers the resnlt of an inspection made by Mr Hull, Stock Inspector, on some calves may prove interesting, Tbe calves inspected bad been operated upon when they were from five to seven days old, and at eleven months old there was not th* semblance of any horsy growth. The procedure adoptsd was to take tbe calves at between five and seven days old, carefully cut away tbe bair from where tbe born shows and gently rub the place with stick canstio potash and repeat the process for five days. It is essential that the calves should be treated at tbe age stated as npon calves six weeks old the operation bad made no impression whatever, while on others where it had been carried out carelessly one born bad grown with not the slightest growth on the other. The benefits derived from dehorning both fat stock and dairy cattle have been exhaustively dealt witb, and there is no doubt the practice will become general in tha near fntnre.
