VICTORIA PARK.
In connection with the work of planting arranged to bo done in Victoria Park, we think tbat something might also be undertaken with advantage in the direction of improving the track. The Wanganui people have set a good example by the energetic way in which they are and have been workinp at the formation of tbeir running and cycling track, They have accomplished work which, if done by paid labor, would have cost an amount soiuetliiug like ±250. This has been done by holding " Working Bees" on their half holidays (Thursday and Saturday afternoons.) As what has been doDe by Wangamii can be done by Feilding, we would suggest that those able and williug should endeavour to give an hour or two next Saturday afternoon and each succeeding Wednesday and Saturday afternoon to help in the planting of trees and ornamen- , tal sbrnbs. Contributions of our beauti- ' ful native shrubs will be gladly accepted by the committee. These can easily be transplanted if a little care is exercised in their removal. We may be permitted to mention as the most beautiful the Kowbai, the Tataka, the Tarata, the Totara, the Ngaio, while there many others quite as pleasant to look upon. We are certain that Mr Henry Worsfold, who has undertaken the duty of super vising the planting of the grounds, would assist to the best of his ability in looking after all donations of the kind brought to him. These working bees have proved in all other places, wonderfully successful. They provide a pleasant afternoon's amusement, besides giving healthy exercise. When the work of tree planting is finished then attention might be given to improving the track so as to be ready for the Boxing Day sports.
