Q i m CHARGE AGAINST THE BANE OF NEW ZEALAND. (Per Press Association.) Napier, Marofc &. At the S.M. Conrt today the Bank of New Zealand was prosecuted index the Shop Assistants Act for working their clerks at unlawful hours. The facts, wore not disputed, but for the defence it was urged that the clerks were not engaged in the ordinary business of the Bank. The work was in connection with a notice to produce documents given by the' parties in an action in the Supreme Court against the Bank. They bad to produce correspondence extending oTer three years between the head office and the Napier branch. The work had to be done at once and it would not bare been advisable to have it doneont* side, as the private affairs of clients won Id have been exposed. The correspondence had nothing to do with tbe current business of the Bank. The S.M. reserved judgment.
