The Acid Throwing.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington. January 24. There seems now but little doubt that Carroll, who threw sulphuric acid at Paeroa, came here and was successful in eluding the vigilance of the police. He, during the voyage from Manukanby the Mahinapua, admitted to the purser of the vessel that he intended to pro* ceed to Sydney. The Mararoa left for Sydney at 9.30 last night, and was searched, but no trace of him was found. Carroll's luggage was on the Mahinapna and this was taken possession of by the police. Carroll evidently had the hint that the police were on his track and never called for his things, bat whether he left for Sydney or not is a matter of speculation. Auckland, Jan. 23. The police are informed that Carroll expressed his intention befoire leafing Aucklan dto commit suicide. It is feared he jumped overboard after the Mahina* pua left port.
