Entries for Messrs Abraham and Williams' Palmerston sale are advertised today. A concert followed by a dance, will be given in the Cheltenham Hall this evening. Local cyclists are reminded that nominations for the road race on Tuesday close to-night. A lady's black umbrella, found near Mr Hooper's (dentist), has been left at the office of this paper. Color- Sergt. Milson advertises for a pick and shovel man to do a couple of days work on the rifle range. Mr Fred Roe took over the Wireroa Hotel, at Levin, on Thursday last. Mr A. Booth were elected to represent the Manchester Road Board. At Normanby, Mr Major, one of the candidates for Hawera, said he only knew of one country where no drink was procurable. In reply to a question, he said that was Hades. It is satisfactory to meet someone with a personal knowledge of the place in question. " What about the National Ass ? " shouted someone at the back of the pit at Mr Atkinson's meeting at Wellington the other evening. " I don't know much about it," replied the candidate, " but it is just as good as a Liberal donkey like you," and the questioner subsided amidst loud laughter. The privileges for tbe Feilding races on December 2nd and 3rd were sold by Mr C. Carr on Wednesday afternoon. Mr Andrews (of Palmerston) secured tbe publican's booth for .£66, Mr D. Younger the correct cards for i' 36, Mr A. Morgan tbe refreshment booth for £b, and Mr Bowler tbe horse paddock for 265. The Australian lambing record for this year belongs to Mr J. Cobb, of Bando station, Narrabri. From four paddocks carrying from 12,000 to 20,000 sheep tbe lambing record was 107 per cent, 100$ per cent, 100£ per cent, and 100 per ceat, and from tbe total of 14,000 ewes the return was 99J per cent of lambs. Suratura Tea, not being a product of New Zealand, was exempted from tbe exhibits at the Wellington Exhibition. This fact, it would appaar, proved a little inconvenient to at least three of the lady visitors, and tbe conversation which ensued amongst them forms the snbject of a replace advertisement, from tbe firm, over the leader to day. A successful concert was given in the large room of the Young Men and Boys Club last evening in aid of the club piano fund. There was a very good attendance and Mr J. Greenwood presided. The programme was contributed to as follows :— Pianoforte solos, Mr Hyde Parker ; songs, Rev A.lones Jones, Mr Opie (of Rongotea) two, Miss Brunette, Miss Stewart (of Colyton). Mr N. Bray, Miss Saxon; recitations, Miss Haggitt, and Mr Opie; violin and piano selections, Messrs T. Scott and HydeParker, aud Misses L. and M. Macarfchnr; selections by string band, Messrs I E. aud A. Ilaybittle (violins), J. Bellve' (cornet), and G. Hayhtttle (piano). Tho items were well rendered and much appreciated by the audience. At the conclusion of the programme Mr Greenwood thanked those who had assisted, particularly those from a distance, and announced that in place of holding the next fortnightly concert, a garden tea party wonld be held on Wednesday. December 9th, at 8 o'clock.
