Kiwitea County Council.

The following is a continuation of the business transacted at tbe tueetiDg of the above Council held yesterday. j Correspondence was further dealt j with as follows : — From the following re change of names on rate roll : — J. P. Morine in place of T. A. Mrrine's, section 40, Block I, Apiti ; W. F. Stanley in place of E. G. McDerinott, sections 87, 88, 21, Apiti, S.D. ; A. O'Connor in place of Jas. Temperley, section 23, Block IV, Apiti — Granted. From A. W. Fullerton-Smith, solicitor for S. Agang, Saudon Block, objecting to Council deverting Upper Pakihikura road to opposite side of strtinm to his land unless he was paid a sufficient sum to erect a bridge. From J. W. Marshall, chairman Rangitikei County Council, re agreement with reference to Vinegar Hill bridge and road. ! At noon the annual meeting was held when Cr Jacob was unanimously reelected chairman on the motion of Cr Williamson and seconded by Cr Jones. Mr Jacob thanked them for the honor, and said he would endeavor to fill the office well. He hoped they would get on as well in the future as in the past. Tlie ordinary business was then resumed. Kesolved, That Crs Atkinson and Brewster sign the agreement, with reference to the purchase of land for road deviation with Me H. Franklin on behalf of this Council. A large number of accounts were passed for payment. Resolved, That Mr Morton be written to asking him to retain control of the Birmingham cemetery. Resolved, That if" Mr Stretton will advauce .±'s towards tbe cost of the track on Peep o'Day road the Council will do the required work. Resolved, That Messrs Galbraitb and Hammond be informed that this Oonncil has no power to relieve them of the payment of the rates referred to. Three ratepayers waited on the Council as a deputation in reference to tbe Kiwitea-Tapuae road. Mr McNeil said he had bo outlet to his section on this road. ±150 was available to bo spent on lower road. His only outlet was through private property, and he had been prosecuted for so trespassing. Mr McDonald said there were some steep sidliugs and if cleared of logs, etc., it would become more passable for stock. Proposed by Cr Totnpkius, seconded by Cr Shannon, That the Engineers call tenders for about «0 chains qf metalling on Junction road ; tenders to be in by Wednesday, December 2nd ; the Engineer and Councillor for the riding to be empowered to accept tenders. Carried. Resolved, That Mr Ashcroft's offer for surveying the Otara road at £8 per mile be accepted, and that he be instructed to do same subject to the approval of Surveyor-General and in terms of his letter. Resolved, that the Engineer call for tenders for draining and forming ten chains on Whare road, near Mr Lay's store, to be paid for oat ot thirds ; tenders to be in by next meeting. Resolved, That the Engineer be instructed to spend about £40 in forming and draining on Mangoira road, where tbe fettlers agree to it ; amount to come out of thirds. Proposed by Cr Jacobs, seconded by Cr Jones, That tho Rangitikei County Council be^informed that the amour t du9 on the Vinegar Hill bridge and approaches will be paid as soon as the loan money is to hand. Cr Williamson objected to tbe motion. The Rangitikei County Cpuncil gave a definite idea that the fencing was not to be paid for. He said no mention had been made of the fencing now in dispute. Cr Jones said be did not remember that the fencing was to be done. The Chairman said that the Rangitikei County Council understood that the Kiwitea representative understood the fencing was included in the original agreement. — Carried by 6 to 3. Resolved, That in reply to the Postal Department this Council recommend tbe name of Eimbolton as a suitable one for Birmingham. Resolved, That the clerk apply for a farther sum of £400 on account of the Pakihikura loan. Resolved, That tenders be called for metalling 60 chains on the Northern line and 90 chains on the Kiwitea Tapuae road. Resolved, That the Clerk write to the Government asking them to allow Professor Kirk to visit the Kiwitea Coanty with a view to reporting on the nature of the soil in the neighbourhood of Kimbolton road, so that settlers may be in a better position to judge of the crops most suitable to the district, and of the manures most beneficial to the district. Resolved, That the Engineer be instructed to report on tbe Kiwitea-Tapuae road from the end of the present formation to Mr McNeil's section. Resolved, That tbe Clerk write to the Minister of Lands asking that the £500 voted for expenditure on the KimboltonRangiwahia road be forwarded at once, so that tbe money can be expended while the weather is dry. It was decided that the application of Mr Agang should be held over till next Council meeting ; Cr Atkinsen to see Mr Agang in the meantime. Resolved, That the following tenders be accepted:— A. Oldfield, £45 and 14s for cnlverts on the Piorangi road ; J. Iho mas and Co., £45, Tapuae road ; Tidd and Co., £68 11s, Mangapipi road. Resolved, That the Engineer be instructed to prepare an estimate for a cylinder bridge at Otara, to he brought before the next meeting. A special meeting of the Council was held in order to confirm a resolution passed at a previous meeting in reference to borrowing a further sum of £400 to provide the additional extra cost in erecting the bridge over the Vinegar Hill road. It was proposed by Cr Jacob, and seconded by Cr Williamson, that the resolution be confirmed.— Carried. The Council then adjourned.
