A disgraceful melee took place on Saturday afternoon at a football match at Collingwood, between the local team and North Melbourne. When play ceased tbe crowd rnsbed the ground and seized Roberts, the field umpire, dragged him about by the hair of his head, while others kicked him and beat him with sticks. A party of the players and tbe police bad great difficulty io rescuing him from tbe angry mob. Several women took a prominent part in tbe row, and renewed the attack when Roberts reached the pavilion, but with the assistance of a strong body of police he managed to escape in a cab. j
