Municipal Fire Insurance.
(Par Press Association.) Wellington, May 28. The Secretary of the Municipal Association has prepared a report to be presented at the annual conference of the Association to be held here shortly re Municipal Fire 'lnsurance. He con* I dudes his report as follows : — " The particulars above given seem to indicate the following points as being necessary to be considered in any proposal of municipal insurance— (1) Distribution of risks over sufficient areas and the question involved therein of districts uniting for fire insurance purposes on the Swiss system is included in the scheme; (2) the question whether in* surance of goods shall be undertaken, for if not there would be nothing under existing laws to prevent companies by combining to charge high rates on goods, from depriving ratepayers of the benefits to be derived from municipal insurance of their buildings ; (3) whether municipalities may not in any case insure their town halls, libraries, five brigade stations and other corporate buildings ; (4) that under a system of municipal insurance it would be to the interest of the ratepayers at larpe to exercise greater care in preventing the outbreak of fire.
