Stock Market.
(Per Press Associaitoni. Christchurch, May 27. The entries at Addington to-day were small in most departments. The attendance was fairly good. Fat Cattle— There was a small entry, mostly cow beef. There was a fair demand for ordinary sorts at rates lately ruling. Steers, £5 to £8 10s ; heifers, i' 42s 6d to £6 5s ; cows, J>3 15s to i:6 10s. Dairy Cattle— There was a fair entry and keen competition for really good sorts. Best springers and heifers, j/6 10s to £8 10s. Store Cattle Only a few dry cows were yarded, and practically no business was done. Fat Sheep There was a small yarding of irregular quality. There was an absence of kcouuess of competition, which has been noticeable lately. The prices realised, except for good heavyweight ewes and wethers and freezing sorts, show n decline. Heavyweight wethers, 17s to 18* 6d ; prime freezing wethers, 14s to 16s (id ; ditto, mixed sexes and lighter sorts, 12s 6d to 13s 9d ; best maiden ewes, 12s to 15s ; butchers' heavy-weight ewes, 11s to 14s; medium do., 8s to 10s 9d ; inferior lots, 6s to 7s 6d. Fat Lambs — The requirements were not large, and the sale was a dragfjy one. The prices realised ranged from 7s to 10s 9d. Store Sheep— A good entr}\ Good forward turnip wethers, 10s to lls 3d ; others, 7s to 9s ; mixed sexes, 7s 6d to 10s 6d ; hreediug ewes, 7s to 8s 9d ; lambs, Is 3d for inferior, and to 5s 6d for fair sorts. Pigs — Medium entry. Good baconers and porkers brought up to o^d per lb, but 3d was about the average. Stores met with a fair demand. Messrs Abraham and Williams report : — Cattle at Pahiatua last Tuesday were in small numbers, bidding dull, and business limited. Sheep mustered freely, all pens being full. The demand under the hammer varied, being dull at first and improving afterwards. In the end we effected a substantial sale at prices showing no quotable change. Best lambs, 5s lid ; others, 4s ; those in poor condition, 2s 9d to 3s 2d ; forward wethers, 6s ; forward ewes, 6s 3d ; store ewes, 3s 9d. At Palmerston yesterday a very heavy yarding of sheep came forward, the bulk of which was disposed'of. A steady tone prevailed throughout, and in cases of indifferent sheep a tendency to stand off was apparent. Cattle, considerably in excess of advertised numbers, were easier than last week. Sheep. — Fat ewes, 7s 6d to 8s ; fat ewes and wethers, 8s 9d ; fat and forward ewes, 6s 9d to 7s Id ; fat wethers, 9s 2d ; stores, 7s lOd to 9d ; crossbred wethers, 4s 3d to ss ; empty ewes, 3s lid to 4s 9d ; breeding ewes, mixed ages, 5s 9d to 6s 9d ; 2-tooth Komneys, 7s ; others, 4s 3d to 4s 9d ; lambs, 3s 7d to 6s sd. Cattle.— Well bred yearlings, £2 2s ; weaners, 235 ; 2^-years steers, £8 4s ; 3-years do., &\ Is ; store bullocks, £'4 7s 6d ; mixed 2-years cattle, £2 3s.
