Meeting of the Cabinet.
Ministers were in Cabinet nearly the whole of yesterday until a late hour at night. It was decided to introduce a Bill into Parliament next session dealing with the question of private benefit societies, and also a Juries Act Amendment Bill, in which provision will be made for the abolition of special juries. Another measure which it was decided to introduce was a Coroners' Bill, by which coroners' juries will be dispensed witb, and enquiries such as are now held by coroners and juries will be conducted by magistrates. The Cabinet decided to grant the widow of the late Inspector Thomson, of New Plymouth, compassionate allowance equal to 18 months' salary, in consideration of the special circumstances of the case. The recommendations of the Eciiis-trar-General with respect to vaccination were approved, and it was decided that the law shall be carried out, as it has been found that there is a very large falling off in the number of children vaccinated. The original fee of Is for each successful vaccination, which was dispensed with in ISSB, will be restored. — N.Z. Times.
