(Per Press Association.) Auckland, May 7. At a meeting of shopkeepers favorable to the Wednesday half-holiday, one hundred and sixty who were present agreed to form a Shopkeepers' Defence League, for the purpose of defending any prosecutions arising from remaining open on Saturday afternoon. The following was also passed : That this meeting, while recognising the importance of keeping one half-holiday in each week, are desirous of having the liberty of keeping open on Saturday and closing on Wednesday, the experience being that Saturday closing is most disastrous to business, and requests Government to delay further prosecutions until Parliament meets, these resolutions to be forwarded to the Government, and that each member of both Houses be asked to support the resolutions.
