■♦ STRIKE OF IRONWORKERS. (Per Press Association). Melbourne, March 19. Typhoid fever is still bad in Melbourne. A woman and her two married daughters, living at M'Lean, have each during the last week given birth to twins. F. G. Carey, a Sydney barrister, committed suicide in his chambers by shoot ing himself in the head with a revolver. He arrived from England four months ago. A fire took place in Lester and Co.'s wine merchants premises, and damage to the GXtent of i'4ooo resulted. The firm's property was insured locally. This Day. One hundred and fifty railway employes' have expressed their willingness to retire on six months' pay, and over two hundred teachers on pensions. Hobart, March 19. Stoddart, captain of the English team, is somewhat seriously ill ; he is suffering from a chill. Sydney, March 19. The ironworkers in the employ of Hudson Bros., went out on strike to-day as a protest against the reduction in wages.
