Speight v. Age Libel Case.
HEAVY BILLS OF COSTS. (per press association). Meluockne, January 2. In the Speight v Age libel action tlie jury returned a veidict on one count out of the eleven aud declared they were unable to answer the other counts. They gave a verdict lor the plaintiff on the eighth, count, which refers to the Age comments alleging gross extravagence, and assessed the damages at i.IOO. The question of costs was reserved. The solicitor for the plaintiff when interviewed said Mr Speight regarded the verdict of merely i'loo ou account, as it was intended to take fresh action on the other alleged libels. This Day. The verdict in the Speight case was uot entered up as the legal effect of the jury's finding will be argued next month. The defendant., costs iv the Speight case aro about twenty-ouo thousand pounds. Speight's amount to about eight thousand.
