Serious Fire at Gisborne
(PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Gisbobne, This Day. A fire broke out last night at nine o'clock in Mrs Ledoer's drapery establishment. The building burned like matchwood, and the flames spread to the adjacent properties occupied by How Chow, a restaurant keeper ; Eskine, baker, Garrett, boot dealer ; Menzie, restaurant keeper ; all of which were destroyed. The fire at one time threatened tbe whole of the business portion of the town, and had it not been for the splendid endeavours of the Fire Brigade, together with the good supply of water, the results would have been much more disastrous. Nothing was saved from the buildings destroyed. A storekeeper adjacent suffered heavily by the removal of his stock.
