Wesleyan District Meeting

* The annual meeting of the Wesleyan District' was commenced last evening at the Wesleyan Hall. There were present^-The Revs. Keall (chairman), J. H. Gray (New Plymouth), Wm. Cannell (Hawera), W. J. Watkin (Sandon), T. G. Hammond (Patea), T. F. Jones (Waitara), C. H. Garland (Wanganui), T. Pee (Marton), G. T. Marshall (Opunake), H. E. Bellhouse (Stratford). The Rev Chairman welcomed representatives at the District meeting to Palmerston. He also gave a brief review of the year's work. The work done in "the district had been most satisfactory. Reference was made, to the opening of the new mission at Stratford, and to the steady advance made in each of the circuits. The Rev. Keall welcomed the Revs. J. H. Gray, G. T. Marshall, and H. E. Bellhouse to the district. The hours of session were fixed aa follows -.—Morning, 9.30 to 12 ; afternoon, 2.30 to 5.30 ; evening, 7.30 to 9.30. Arrangements' were made for the literary and theological examination of candidates. All the conference stations had been observed. The Rev. Mr Watkin, of Sandon, applied to be made a supernumerary. Mr Watkin stated he had been in the full work of the ministry for 37 years. He had never been a strong man physically, but now he was unable to carry on the work of the ministry in circuit work. The Rev. W. Oannall moved that Mr Watkin'a request be granted, and the Rev T. G. Hammond, seconded the motion. The mover and seconder expressed their deep sorrow that Mr Watkin should find it necessary to make such an application. — The motion was carried. It was found that there was no objection to any minister or preacher on trial in the district. The chairman stated there were two candidates for the ministry— Mr Chappell. of Palmerston ; and Mr Birks, of Birmingham. It was arranged that Mr Birks preach bis trial sermon this morning (Wednesday) at 7 ; and it was also arranged that the Rev. H. E. Bellhouse preach his trial sermon this evening (Wednesday) at 6.45. The district meeting then adjourned, until this morning at 9.30. — Standard.
