It will be soon from our report of tho proceedings of the meeting held laat night to receive the results of the deliberations of a committee appointed at «a former meeting, that a strong provisional directory was elected, and that a satisfactory number of shares were taken up. The amount of good that societies of this kind can accomplish in a rising town liko Feilding is almost incalculable, while to individuals they encourage habits of thrift and forethought. Uy their help, they can make every man tho owner of the house he lives in Tho monthly contributions are so small that the payments are scarcely missed, while the mental satisfaction derived from the consciousness of providing for the future comfort and practical independence of their wives and families is also a source of pleasure. In selecting Mr Edmund Good be!) ere as manager and secretary, the Directors have acted with wisdom, Mr Uoodbehere possesses all the qualifications necessary for the responsibilities of the position, and the fact of his accepting it is a guarantee to the shareholders and contributors that the affairs of the Society will be managed with tnct, prudence, and skill. |
