Correspondence
ARTESIAN WATER. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir— l observe that Mr Carthew has given a notice of motion in the Borough Council for the purpose of getting a vote for an artesian water supply. I hope that our councillors will assist him to the utmost of their power. Every indication goes to show that an earnest effort will be successful. At Birmingham, some 1200 feet aboyethe level of Feilding, water rises to the surface in springs, although the Qroua river is running close to a bed 400 or 500 feet lower than the township. Near Awahuri, on the Rangitakei-luae, and at Campbelltown artesian water has been obtained, in some cases at a very trifling expense. It is difficult to estimate the value of : a flow/ of artesian water, if obtained, in Feilding. Prom every point of view, whether a sanitary one, for fire.'prevention, watering stock, or for household use, such a discovery would? )be worth £10,000 at least as saving the borough an outlay,, which? must some day or other be made for a water supply from the' Oroua or. Kiwitea. Let us hope our councillors will take a broad view and not grudge, the paltry £50 or so required; to thoroughly test the question . . ; ; ; I am, &Cy ■ f ... ,;,',... ■.'..; pßoafeisss'.
