Opening of New Catholic Church at Palmerston

Last Sunday turned oat a lovely day—a real holiday— for many -who at considerable inconvenience travelled some 6V miles to be present, and witness the opening of the most beautiful CatboKo Churck in the Manawatu by His Grace Archbishop Redwood. Special trains were run from Wanganui and Foxton. Hisv Grace blessed the Church at an earty hour on Sunday morning. There were fiveservices before the solemn 'high mass whioh was at 11 a.m. The Very Rev. Dr* W Iters was celebrant j Very Rev. Father McNamara (VXJ.), deacon; Father Bransard, sub-deacon ; Father Kirk, roaster of ceremonies. There were present— His Grace the Archbishop, Fathers Dawson and Patterdoh. The Archbishop preached two eloquent sermons.. The choir was strengthened oh the occasion, having a full orchestral band to assist* the singers Rev. Father Patterson, co.iductGd the choir. M esdames Pascal, Lloyd aad Gordosa, and Messrs Roe (principal tenor of St T Mary's Cathedral, WeUingfon), Ken! dall and Henderson gave admirable as>ista*ice. Mr.-Isherwood- was leader of the band.
