Jameson iv the ; :^meantime was making rough sketches of the horrible scene. Then he went r ttt- the. camp where he finished the ,i .-sketches in water colour. Assar further says that Jameson was proud ' i '.'of his cannibal sketches, and showed ■ u- them to all of the officers. Bonny also made a further statement to-day to the effect that the "cannibal incident was the cause of the '"death of Batt, Jameson, and Barttellot. Assar told the Congo State authorities, and sent his affidavit to -■' "Europe. Barttellot learning this became terribly excited for fear he "■ would* be blamed,' and Bonny ascribed ! ."the violence which led to Barttellot' s A,- death to this cause. Bonney believes Barttellot was becoming insane ■?'» through privations, and that the <:> cannibal incident was the laßt straw, „ and that he can hardly be held re- .. sponsible for his' actions thereafter. -Jameson also became uneasy, and 1 -hurried to the coast to try and stop 'the report, and Bonny believes worry , killed him. Bonny excuses Jameson on the ground of his beiug an enthusiastic naturalist, and says he ■""'ft ailed to realise his act. Bonny relates an incident of Jameson securing '^ "'"fitte" head of a negro who had been .s__*ot by an Arab. It was salted and to London where it was stuffed. . It was afterwards in the possession of i Mrs Jameson.''
