TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR.
Sir,—Will you permit me, as a supplement to my letter of yesterday's date, to point out that although (as stated by Mr Sandilands at the public meeting) the original design of the town placed the Post Office and Court-house in the centre of Manchester and Denbigh Squares respectively, it is no evidence of the good taste of the designer. I, for one, ana very glad the original plan was not. carried out. I am pretty well acquainted with many parts of England, and I venture to say that where a main highway passes through its thousands of towns and villages not a precedent can be found for a block in the centre of a highway as is now proposed. You will here and there find a cross, a clock tower, statue, monument, or ancient gateway, but no impassable barrier. If some similar erection is desired for Feilding, I would suggest that the fire-bell scaffolding should be placed in the centre, say, of Denbigh Square.—l am, &c, Saul. Goodbehebe. Feilding, 28th November, 1890.
