« Mr Meadows, who has just returned from England, was a visitor to Feilding to-day. At a meeting of farmers and other settlers held at Bunnythorpe last night, it was resolved to open a co-operative store. A cricket match, Halcombe v. Oroua County, was being played on the County ground, Feilding, to-day as we went to press. We have been desired by Mr G. W. Fowles to state that his late wife died o f inflammation of the lungs, and not puerperal fever as has been rumoured. At Taonui, Mr Wildbore has a most useful cow. She has given over a gallon of milk, morning aud night, since May 1889. That is about eighteen months. Captain Edwin telegraphed at 9 a.m. to.day :— Warnings for gales with rain after from 12 to 20 hours have been sent to all places northward of Kaikoura and | Hokitika. An advertisement from the WelhngtonManawatu Railway Company states that on Wednesday the Company will issue Saturday return tickets to enable visitors to attend the Wellington A. and P. Show. Messrs Baker and Cooke notify that they will open an office in Messrs Stevens and Gorton's buildings on Court days and auction sale days. For other particlars we refer our readers to the advertisement. Says the Wanganui Herald :— Mr Arkwright strongly supports a tax on the unimproyed value of land. Mr Ballance is making converts on eyery hand. This is exactly what he has advocated for many years, aud now we have most of the candidates following closely in his train. The Spring Show of the Feilding Horticultural Society will take place on Wednesday nextj and members of the Committee are reminded of the meeting to be held this evening in the office of the Secretary, Mr E. Goodbehere. There is a good lot of work to be done and a full attendance is requested. The Westport Times "has got its rag out " because .Mr Wragge, " a scientific person," in Brisbane, has been interfering with the weather on the West Coast. We haye an intimate k'nowlege of the climate in that part of the Colony, and we join with our contemporary in thinking it is very well able to manage its own affairs without any outside assistance. An infant three months old, the child of Frederick Stowe, of Collingwood, Victoria, met its death under peculiarly snd circumstances at Collingwood. Whilst washing the infant in a small oval bath, the mother, who was alone in the house, was suddenly seized with a fainting fit, the chdd dropping out of her hands in the water. When the mother recovered con-ciousness the infant was ly.ng dead in the bath. A Crown Lands sale was held at the Land Board ofiice, Welhngton, this week. Twenty thousand acres in the Otamakapua Pakihikura Block were offered and 13,774 acres selected at a total price of £17,089 78 6d. There were 31 selectors. Fourteen miscellaneous sections comprising 2385 acres were taken up for£lß4l ls 1 Os and seven forfeited sections were put up of which five of a total of 651 acres fetched £926. The sale of Levin town sections was a failure Altogether 16,814 acres were disposed of for £19,989 14s lld. Although J. C. Morey and Co. are not holding a Cheap Sale the price list published in this issue is much below Saie Price. The goods being all new, and imported direct, buyers have now a rare chance of securing seasonable goods at moderate prices. — Advt.
