ARTESIAN WELLS.

Sic, — I have been thinking for a long Hame what a blessing it would be to this district if we had Artesian wells ; at the back of every house instead of the stinking water that most of us have now. Of course some of us have what we call good water, but then it is only surface water, and some people say surface water, after passing through decayed vegetation, is not good to drink, but I am not going to argue on that point. I think once the fact was ; established that Artesian water could be procured, almost every house would have' a well. I, have travelled a gpod deal over New Zetland, and I feel confident, from the formation, that we have aa good a .show as. Christchurch for Artesian water. It would nofc cost much to test it, and, if successful, the benefits to be derived are not easily estimated.
