The Feilding Star. THURSDAY, MAY 3, 1888. Fire Prevention
The meeting last night may be oonsidered very satisfactory, and the owners of property in houses should be satisfied that their fellow citizens have made a movement in the direction of taking the right means to prevent a recurrence of the fires which have, during the past few months, done so much harm .to the place. A good man, on whom the public can place the most thorough reliance, has been elected as nightwatchman, and the nucleus formed of what will be, we feel confident, a most efficient Fire Brigade. It will be seen by advertisement in another column that a meeting of the Brigade will be held to-morrow evening at Mr C. Brayjs office, when those who desire to add their names to the list of members will have an opportunity of doing so. We hope a number of active and intelligent men will be added to the ranks. The public are urged to keep in miud the fact that funds will be necessary to thoroughly equip the Brigade, and to be prepared to respond liberally when called upon to do so. On the success of the Fire Brigade depends a considerable amount of the prosperity of the town,
