London, May 2,
At a meeting of Catholics at Alderahot, the action of His Holiness the Pope in connection with affairs in Ireland was condemned, and resolutions were passed in favor of the establishment of a branch of the National League, and to divert Peters pence m support of the League. Renewed reports are current that Cardinal Moran succeeds Archbishop Walsh, and great excitement prevails throughout Ireland.
The Freeman's Journal declares that the Irish people have won their battles on the lines laid down by that paper, and that, notwithstanding "the action of the Pope, the clergy will continue to cooperate with the Nationalist party. The Irish members will hold a caucus for the purpose of considering the Papal decree.
Sydnkt, May 1
Cardinal Moran denies the truth of the statement to the effect that he is to succeed Archbishop Walsh, of Dublin.
