Wanganui. January 24. i Messrs F. R. Jackson & Co. report ; — j The competition for stock has not been I so brisk during the past fortnight, the present low price of fat cattle and sheep, together with the dry weather, militating very much againstlthe sale of store stock. We quote a reduction in values for cattle ©f about 5s per head. Sheep are still dull of sale, with no sign of improvement in the meantime. Pigs are also at lower values : small porkers still better in proportion, but large fat pigs feel the reductien most. The horse market has simply collapsed. We quote : — Cattle — At Feilding the yards were well filled with useful cattle. We sold ' out about one half. Well forward 3-year » old bullocks. L 5 to L 4 10s ; cows and j calves, L 2 14s ; yearling steers Ll 15s I to L 2; heifers, Ll 5s to Ll 7s 6d. At j St. Hill-street : cows and calves L 2 15i ; I milch cows. L 3 7s 6d. At Waverley ; steers, L 2 19s to L 3 ls ; forward and fat cows, L 2 l7s 6d ; cows, and calves, L 2; 15s ; store cows, L2to L 2 lis ; yearling steers, Ll 19s heifers, 265, Sheep — At Feilding; wether hoggets, 5s 6d ; ewes, ss ; old ewes, 3s 6d. At St. Hill-street ; fat wethers, 8s ; 2-tooth wethers, 6s 6a ; fat ewes, 6s 9d. Pigs— Large fat pigs, 20« to 25s 6c? ; smaller sorts, 14s 6d ; good stores, 6s 9d to 10s. Poultry— Fowls, 2s to 2s 9d ; ducks, 3s 6d to 5s per couple. Wellington, January 26. The usual uumber of cattle and sheep were yarded to-day. Cattle maintained last sale values, but sheep were ls per head under our previous quotations. Only a limited number of pigs came forward, consisting chiefly of small stores, and sold at very low rates. Our quotations are : Bullocks, £6 to £6 7-t 6d — average, £6 4s 7d ; lighter weights, £5 15s to £6 ; cowsjof best qualities made £4 15s to £4 17s 6d— average, £4 16s ; others, £3 15s to £4 10s— average, £4. Wethers brought from 8s to 8s 7d ; ewes, 6s 6d to 6s 8d ; smaller ewes, 4s ld to 5s 2d ; shorn lambs, 5s 7d to 6s ; inferior woolly lambs, 4s to 4s 7d. Porkers, 10s 3d ; small store pigs, 2s 6d to 5s 6d.
