-» PALMERSTOiX V FEILDING The return match between these clubs was played last Saturday and resulted in a draw, neither side making any scoreIt was decided to play the g-ime in two spells of 35 minutes, and Smith, the Pal merston captain, having won the toss, ch< se to defend the northern goal, which gave them the advantage of playing downhill. The ball was set rolling by Mountfort kicking off for Feilding, and for a short time the Palmerston goal was threatened, but the superior weight of their forwards soon relieved them, and the game swayed back to the centre of the ground. Here some excellent passing was displayed by Palmerston, Salmon and Templar making several efforts to get away, but they were always stopped by the Feilding backs, who, without excepton, collared splendidly all through the game. Towards the end of this spell the Palmerston forwards made a good ruAh, and looked very much like scoring, but Roe and Webster came to the rescue and 'managing to get the ball lo se, soon put the goal out of danger, and shortly afterwards half lime was called with the play pretty well in the centre of the ground. During this spell Feilding played a man short. After a short interval play was resumed, and Feilding having the advantage of playing downhill, and having now made up their full team, it was thought that they would pull off the match, but it was not to be. The ba'l being kicked off. was well returned by Roe, and immediately put iti scrimmage. After about ten minutes' play, Palmerston rushed tho ball into touch close to the Feilding goal line, and a force down was the result. Being kicked out by Thomson, it was soon carried away towards the Palmerston quarters, but the Feilding forwards kicking rather hard, allowed Palmerston to force down. The ball remained in their territory for some time, and Thomson managed to set a pot at goal, but failed, merely resulting in another force down, and a few minutes afterwards " no side" was called. I was glad to see that some of the Feilding men played the dribbling game. There is no doubt this is the game for forwards, and more attention should be given to it. Messrs Pratt nnd Saxelby acted as umpires for Palmerston and Feilding respectively, and gave every satisfaction. ToOCH-LINE.
