Lord Eeidliaven, the gentleman who has lately been promoted from the position of assistant-bailiff to the heirship of the Earldom of Seafield, has been requisitioned to stand fjr Oamaru. It is singular (says the Post) that the Oamaru people should have found out the young man's ■merits just ; as he has come into a title. They would do better to remain ! faithful to Mr Shrimaki. There is a strong smack of snobbery about the requisition. '
