« . (bBCTBB's TELRGBAMB.) London, July I. The Australians commenced a mutch to-day at Sheffield against eleven of the Players. The following are the names of the latter :-r-Barlow, Bates, Briggs, Emmett, Grimshaw, Hall, Hearn, Peate, Bead, Sherwin, and Ulyett. There was an enormous attendance of spectators and fine weather. There was an excellent wicket, and the ground was in. first rate order. The Home team went in first and were all disposed of for a total of 230. The highest scorers were Bates, b 11 ; Barlow, b 47 ; Ulyett, b 76; Hall, c 16; Bead; b 81 ; Briggs, b 18 ; Emmett, not out, 11. The Australians in their first innings had lost three wickets for 65 when the stumps were drawn. .Murdoch, not out 25, and Giffen, stumped, 81, were the highest scorers. ■ Liter. The cricket match at Sheffield, Australians v. Players of England, was resumed to-day in the presence of an enormous number of spectators, and with fine weather. The Australians, haying three wickets down for 65 runs, continued their first innings, which closed for a total of 189. The principal scorers were — Murdoch, b, 25 ; Bonner, c, 70 ; Palmer, not out, 28. The Home team then commenced their second innings, and scored 87 with two wickets down before play ceased for the day. Barlow, caught for 28, and' Hall for 59. The wicket to-day was rather bumpy. Blnckham was hurt during the game, and was compelled to retire.
