Although there appears a falling off in \\\o receipts, tiie f.ict remains that they are still up to Ihe aver.ige. The deficiency is explained thus -During the corresponding period last year, 2,431 tons of ballast were carried from Palmorston for county road purposes. Against this item there only appears 191 tons this year. There is an increase of C97 toss in timber and merchandise, thus showing an actual increase in the ordinary business of the line. There is an increase also in the number of passengers of 871.
