MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

The annual meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber, Foxton, on Wednesday last Present — Crs .Koelifltrow (in the chair), Hadfield, Bruce, Sanson, Yl«Beth, Linton, McLenuan, <Gray, and Fry. Cr Fry took his seat for the first time Ms one of thp members of the Manchester Siding. The first business, according to the Act, being to elect a Chairman, it was ; resolved, on the motion of ; 'Cr McLennan, seconded by Cr Sanson,: that Ci Itockstrow be appointed Chair- , man for the ensuing year. The newly-elected Chairman ia a few appropriate remarks thanked the Council for the honor conferred upon him, and hoped he would be able to discharge his •duties with mutual pleasure and satisfaction. The minutes of the last meeting were xead and confirmed. The following report of the committee Appointed to arrange for the collection of fates was read and adopted That the Clerk of the Council be appointed collector from 6th December, 1882, and that he shall visit Otaki, Palanerston, Feilding, Ifrilcombe, Sanson. and Cuinpbfclltown once in each .financial .year, and notify .fcue .-sa.u>e in the papers. After .some discussion between Mr Luxford and the -Council, it was resolved on the motion of Cr Bruee, seconded by «Cr Hadfield, that Mr Bray be instructed to call for tenders for the completion of the Awapuni dram, tenders to be in by '' :next meeting of the Council. ; Besolved — On th<- motion of Cr Bruce, seconded by Cr Hadfield, that M r Thos. be appointed poundkeeper for ■ tthe Taonui Biding. Besolved — On the motion of Cr Fry,, : seconded by <Cr Linton, that B. Port be :appointed junior Clerk for the Council. Besolved — On tbemotion of Cr M cLenknan, seconded by Cr Sanson, that the •Council pay a sum of £30 towa«ls repairing and protecting the xiver bank at JScott'B ferry, provided the Bangitikei rCounty Council expend an equal amount And carry on the work, the money to be 3»td on completion. Besolved — On the motion -of Cr Hadifield, seconded by Cr Linton, that the •overseer of works be instructed to <call ;for tenders for the extension of the Fox-fton-Oitaki road^ cost of work to be laid off, nottoexeeed £100, tenders to be in by next meeting of Council. Besolved — On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Gray, that the sum of £350 be placed on the estimates towards the erection of a new hospital at Wanganui, providing the different local bodies contribute in equal proportion. Besolved-On the motion of Cr Sanson, seconded by Cr A'cLennan, that the plans and specifications for the Awahuri bridge jproriaing additional spans of 40ft each lit; adop'edj and that the Chairman apply

Resolved — On the motion of Cr Bruc< seeoaded by Cr Hadfield, that the Secrc tary be instructed to write to Messr McEwen and others, in reply to ihei memorial re Karere road, that in the pre sent state of the funds of the riding ani in view of the expenditure involved ii the working of the Roads Constructioi Act, this Council regrets its inability t< proceed with the work at present. Resolved— On the motion of Cr Rock strow, seconded bj Cr Gray, that Cn .Sanson, McLennan, Bruce, and th« Chairman be appointed a finance com mittee with power to arrange for over draft.
