CAPTAIN JACKSON BARKY.

Captain Barry was again unfortunate with his second lecture. He was announced to lecture in the Denbigh Hotel Sample Rooms on Wednesday evening last, but the illegality of charging for admission was pointed out to the Captain, who thereupon announced a free lecture in the commercial room of the Hotel. A large audience was present, and Mr James Whisker was voted to the chair. The Chairman, in introducing the Captain, referred to some of the exciting scenes Captain Barry had experienced, and could himself bear witness to many of the hardships endured by the original pioneers of the colonies. The Captain's lecture was long and interesting, and at times his remarks were warmly applauded. We have not space to give his lecture "in extenso ;" suffice it to say " the outline of his life," as he calls it, reads more like matters of fiction than stern realities. Many of his adventures were truly marvellous, and his hundred escapes from terrible deaths were apt at times to create in the minds of his audience a feeling of disbelief, and the doughty captain added thereto by stating that lie was " onl3 r one of the three left to ti 11 the title." His leeiwiv was interspersed wifh anecdotes ai.d stories ! about " live lords." the Queen. Tom Bracken, ihe Tich borne claimant, and other celebrated personages, altogether forming a most remarkable career, and • told in a most remarkable manner — all i faithfully recorded in his celebrated , book. Three cheers were accorded the i gallant captain at the conclusion of his lecture. _ j
