[FEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Masteeton, This Day. lhe Masterton Town Hall was destroyed by fire afc half-past one, this morning The Hall was in the occupation of the maoris till one o'clock. The value of the building is £1000, but is ouly insured in the South British for £700. The Fire Brigade worked very well, saving the County and Government buildings adjacent. The hall burnt very rapidly. James Brown, cnstodian, saved his wife and children who were sleeping in the building, but his furniture and effects were also destroyed. He estimates his loss at £300, which is uninsured. The hall is the property of the Town Lands Trust. Wellington, This Day. It is understood that no action will be taken by the Government respecting the release or pardou of Eonghurst until the sentence has been passed on Adams, who was convicted for conspiracy. Cheistchuech, This Day. A little girl named Cecily Medins, 18 months' old, fell into a w. 11 at Addington this afternoon and was drowned. Duuedin, This Day. The Papakaio murder case was continued at the Supreme Court till 5.30 p.m., eight witnesses being examined. It is adjourned till to morrow. The Zealandia, which arrived from London to-day after a passage of 84 days from land to land, experienced terrific gales while crossing the southern ocean. She comes into port with the front of the saloon staved in, the loss of her poop ladder, pirt of her bulwarks, her forecastle, and hand-rails. The seamen were washed out of the forecastle, and their chests caried overboard. The Burns Statue Committee bave given an order to Sir John Steel for a pedestal, to he of Grey granite, and the basement of Port Chalmers bluestone. Jame< Mills, the well-known gunsmith, and a leading member of the Masonic fraternity, died yesterday. | ■ - I
