FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL
Thursday, Aug. 17, 1882. The Feilding Borough Council held its usual fortnightly meeting at the Council Chambers, on Tnursday evening last, when there were present :■ — Crs Lethbridge, J. C. Thompson, P. Thompson. W. B;iker, and Henry Rutherford. Cr Lelhbridcje was voted to the chair, in the absence of Mr Chamberlain, the Mayor, who wrote to the Council, stating be could not walk to the Chambers without pain. Mayor's lettier of 7th August, forw-Lrdi-i^ resolulion as to a suspension bridge over the Rangitikei River, and tariff rales for timber, and stating in reply that the same would be considered. From Wm. Read ing, offering to collect dog fees for 20 per cent commission. From Mr Gichard, re condition ef roads opposite his house. From the Town Clerk, Wanganui, enclosing resolution from the Wanganui Hospital Couiinittee : -"That two additional .wards and a dead-house be. erected at. the Hospital, in accordance with' the estimate of tbe foreman of works of the Wanganui, Borough, viz., 2 wnrds, £160, dead-house, £34; the contributing bodies to pay £25 each with tbe exception of Wanganui, which is to defray the balance. The Executive Committee tO'Carry out) the work immediately upon each of the contributing bodies agreeing to pay its porii.n. It is intended to apply to the Government for an fjquiv'alent, which, if jgrahted, will reduce the amount of the contributions by about one half." The Council went' into Committee to receive the following letters from applicants for lh • post of Ranger: — J. T. Fooler, ••'.' Hodges, W. Arnott, W. Hammond, Hans Ahdresen and John' Newman. Oo the ballot being taken . Hodges was declared to be appointed Ranger, on the morion of Gr W. Baker, seconded by Cr J. C Thompson. Tbe Council resumed its ordinary business, aud confirmed the appointment. Cr Lethbridge stated he had visited Wanganui as a delegate to the Hospital Committee, and that he had supported the motion for two more wards and a dead house. The proposed wards were for contagious diseases. Almost a new hospital will be built. The new wards will he so erected as to permit of their being moved to form a part of such new hospital. Cr I 'l Thompson asked if the Government would pay a subsidy. Cr J. C. Thompson suggested the subject shoul i be left for future coosidera(ion when they hid a larger meeting of Councillors. The subject was an in - portant one, and the Mayor would be present 'next meeting. Cr Bu the fiord thought as it was a question Of money, its consideration should be adjourned. - ' Proposed by Cr J. C. Thompson,, and seconded by Gr- -P. Thompson, that the question of x;oiilrilmting to the Wanganui Hospital be 'considered at next meeting of the Council. - Carried. Cr J. C Thompson stated that certain work had been authorised to be done by the Public Works- Committee, but the work of a water table and box drain, »s , passed bad riot been done, and Gichard had neglected to complete his part of the job. __ ' ■ Cr W.
