THE MURDERER WINIATA COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.
'■ "•" (BY TELEGBAPH.) Auckland, July 10. Winiata's case was continued this morning. A Native named Newton deposed that while at Hikaurangi in 1880 he was informed by Winiata that he and another Native had quarrelled with Packer, and they had killed him, the oiher Native striking the blow. Burlow and Constable Gillies deposed tbat while coming down in the train after the arrest Winiata accused a hulf-caste named Harry, now residing at the Bay of Islands, of murdering Packer. Prisoner was committed for trial. Lateb. Winiata was removed this afternoon to Mount Eden gaol, under a strong escort, to await his trial for wilful murder.
