Alexandria, July 10. No change has occurred in the situation of affairs here. Admiral Sir Beauchamp Seymour has promised foreign Consuls, in reply to a request made today, that he will give 24 hours' notice before commencing to bombard the city, if it should be found necessary to do so. Every preparation for bombarding the city has now been completed by Admiral Seymour, and it is considered that an attack by the combined fleet is inevitable. Mr C. A. Cookston, British Consul, has notified io the various ' onsuls the intentions of the British Admiral, and has re. quested them io summon the subjects of ihe Powers which they represent to leave the city and embark within 24 hours. Telegrams are to hand reporting that the Soudan rebels, under the leadership of a false prophet, have fought a severe engagement with Egyptian troops. The latter were defeated and completely crushed, and the rebels are now marching on Senaar, a town on Blue Nile, 160 miles from Khartoum. Lateb. Admiral Seymour has announced that he will commence the bombardment of the city at 4 o'clock on Tuesday morning, unless the forts are surrendered before that time. The French fleet will not join in the bombardment. Mr Cookson, British Consul, has suspended relations with the Egyptian Government, and has informed Dervish Pasha that he will be held responsible for the safety of the Khedive. London, July 10. A body of m rines, artillery, and light infantry, numbering 1200 has been despatched to Alexandria in the troopship Orontes, to await contingencies ; but they will only be disembarked in the event of the necessity arising for such a step. The English Channel Squadron, which recently arrived at Malta, has left that Island for Alexandria. Two English regiments from Malta garrison are on board the fleet.
