RAILWAY LOG-ROLLING.
-♦- Tbe Patea Mail siys that the Tuhnd Railway for this island is prudu* iigsome curious log-rolling. Ivist Coast members are " uoing for" the east Taupo route. Wellington, Manawatu. and Wanganui members are not agreed, but • generally ihey oppose the Taranaki and I «iokau route, beinir jealous of Auckland • getting hold of trade along the Tar n.il.i j side. Auckland member* agree wiih ; Tj.ranaki in pulling for a West Coast extension to connect with Auckland; and i as this question of a route is complicated I with the proposed removal of the seat of j Government, the Auckl-.nd members : thoraten to support Canterbury and Oli'go for removing the Parbame'it to ,' Christchurch, unless Wellington memj hers will support the West Coast ruue jfor an Inland Railway. This combination will probably force "Wellington, in ; self-defence, to vote with ihe West j ("oast and laranaki. It is at least cer- ! tain that this Inland Railway wiil be j scheduled for construction out of the i proposed loan of three millions. The selection of route will doubtless be left for decision later.
