DUNEDIN.

July 4. The brewers of Otago have petitioned Parliament to abolish the beer duty. The petition states that beer is the only article manufactured in the colouy subject to taxation, and that the brewers aie not only compelled to pay it but are subjected to a tax on the materials used in the business, and also on their machinery. A fisherman named Kirdness borrowed a boat for fishing in the Waihola Lake. The boat has been found, but nothing has since been heard of Kirdness, who is supposed to have fallen overboard.
