GENERAL ELECTION
THE FRANKLIN SEAT ONE CANDIDATE WITHDRAWS Mr Bertram Bunn, of Valley Road, Pukekohe, who announced his intention of contesting the Franklin seat at the forthcoming General Election as an Independent National candidate, has decided to withdraw from the contest in order to avoid splitting the National vote. Mr Bunn, in an advertisement in today’s Times, makes it plain that he feels a solid National vote is necessary to avoid the risk of letting Labour gain the Franklin seat. He contends a more vigorous policy must be adopted by the National Party to withstand the ever-increasing mass of Socialistic legislation which is being enacted in the name of war-necessity. MR MASSEY’S MEETINGS Owing to the National Day of Prayer and dedication on Friday, September 3, Mr J. N. Massey, M.P., National Party candidate for Franklin, has altered the date of his scheduled, meetings at Orua Bay and Graham’s Beach. These will now be held on September 8.
