WOMAN MISSIONARY’S ADVENTURE

A young New Zealand woman missionary, Miss Merle Farland. has .just, reached the United Nations side of the Pacific battle front after eluding the Japanese ever since their occupation of the Solomons. She is a trained nurse, who has been'with the Methodist Mission in this area for four ye/rs. _ Her mother, Mrs E. It. Marriner, lives in Gisborne, and she has two sisters in Auckland. Miss Moreen Farland. on the staff of the Auckland Hospital, and Mrs G. N. Garter, of Orakci. Tn all her months behind the Japanese lines. Miss Farland had the company of other missionaries who had remained in the islands. They were able lo avoid enemy troops, and. with the help of loyal natives, they lived ofl the land in reasonable comfort. Pressed in a summer print frock. Miss Farland made a unique picture when she reached the American lines. She looked extremely well.
