THRILL FOR WIFE
HEARING HUSBAND’S VOICE Among Australian message-senders in a, British Broadcasting Corporation “Anzacs Calling Home” broadcast was a Royal Australian Air Force officer, who called his wife and children. He gave permission for her enthusiastic reply to he published, in token of whal these broadcasts mean !o listeners whose menfolk are serving overseas.
“Your message was so lovely — hearing your voice made you seem lot real —for a moment 1 couldn't hear it. Everything else seemed so makeshift. 1 could just see you on the other side of the fire, both of us listening to f he, news. I'm glad they think so much of you and that all your work and kindness is appreciated. I woke the kids up and they listened ‘all ears.' They loved hearing their names called. They would tell everything to their little school pals. Everyone loved your message. Tt came over shortwave at four p.m.. and about four unknown people rang and told me. So I rang 3LO in fear and trembling. I'd have died if I'd missed you a.£ain, and we all heard it at 10.30 p.m. sitting in our room in fronl of the fire. If was a wonderful birthday present."
