THE HOME
A MOTHER'S INFLUENCE
WHAT IS IT TODAY?
“In this parish we do nol have a multiplicity of organisations,” said the Rev. A. E. Prebble, at the annual meeting of Pukekohe Anglicans on Sunday evening. “We have a branch of the world-wide Mothers’ Union, an organisation which, in the words of the foundress, exists ‘to help wives and mothers in their sacred responsibilities lo home, husband and children.’ Unfortunately,” iidded the vicar, “in these days there are many women w T ho do not recognise these responsibilities, and who spend more time out of their homes than in them. Mother makes the home, but if she is not there the house is no longer the home but becomes merely the place where a few people live. And if the house and its inhabitants do not'constitute a home, those who live in it cannot be called a family, because they are a collection of individuals, all bearing the same name, but each claiming, and demanding privileges, the recognition of which run clean contrary to the collective welfare of all. I-ience the general deterioration of home life.”
