MAUKU RAISES QUOTA
1942 PATRIOTIC APPEAL
DISTRICT’S FINE RESPONSE
The farming districts in Franklin are showing the larger centres how to raise their quota of the 1942 All Purposes Patriotic Appeal. Paerata raised its quota in a single day, while Mauku succeeded in one canvass. At Mauku if was a case of “now or never” and almost every resident decided it was “now” and they parted up there and then, with the result that the quota of £2OO was exceeded by l 3 4s, as £203 4s was raised. The total included £24 which was donated by the Mauku Young Farmers’ Club. Individual donations ranged from £2O down lo the modest ss. The result was-most gratifying to those responsible for the conduct of (he house-to-house canvass.
The chairman of the Mauku patriotic committee, Mr W. J. Sommerville, on behalf of the committee, thanks all who responded so readily to the appeal.
