SPRING FLOWERS
AN INSPIRING SIGHT MINIATURE SHOW THE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY Tlit* Pukekohe Horticultural Society held a miniature spring show at Keating’s tea rooms on Monday evening. The president, Mr M. 0. Brown, presided over a large attendance of members and friends, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. It was an inspiring sight to see all the tables filled with the lovely spring blooms and the judge, Mr Thornton, congratulated the exhibitors on the good quality of the citrus fruits, proving, he said, that this district was congenial for the culture of this fruit. He-urged all present to grow more of it. After the exhibits had been judged, Mr Thornton gave a practical demonstration on the pruning of stone and pip fruits and answered many, questions in connection with the spraying of these trees.
Mr V. Frost won the points prize for cut blooms and fruit with 39 points, and and Mrs L. G. Lawrie was runner-up wth 25 points.
The most meritorious exhibit was a plate of Poorman’s oranges exhibited by Mrs Walsham.
