Tuakau School Fancy Dress Party. At a meeting ol' the Tuak.iu School Committee .on Monday evening, final arrangements were made for the Tuakau school children’s fancy dress party which takes place on Friday evening. Tuakau Plunket Society. At a meeting of the Tuakau Plunket Society held last week, Mrs S. J. Conelly presiding, it was decided to arrange a Plunket Fair for September 30. Business Announcement. Mrs B. M. Rose announces in this issue that she has removed lo commodious premises in Decble’s new buildings in George Street, Tuakau, where she has expanded her tea rooms, confectionery, green grocery, home cookery, florist and plant sections of her business. The premises have been nicely laid out with modern furnishings and made attractive by bright colourings. Spacious buffet tables and a modern coffee bar are features of these attractive premises, which certainly enhance Tuakau’s shopping centre. Cutting up of Bothwel! Park. An exceptional opportunity is offered to local farmers to secure a run-off for their stock, especially in winter months, by the cutting up of “Bcthwell Park,” Whiri Whiri. The allotments are convenient sizes of from 12 to 38 acres. Sand-hill country is keenly sought after for winter grazing, and sections of these sizes seldom come on the market. Tomorrow Night’s Concert. Those who enjoy a first class concert are reminded ol' the appearance in Pukekohc tomorrow night of the Auckland Lyric Harmonists. In the Strand Theatre this talented group of entertainers will present a variety programme of music, drama and melody. There are still plenty of seats available. As the proceeds are being donated to the Women’s War Service Auxiliary, the E.P.S. and the Home Guard, three worthy organisations, a full house should greet the visitors. Reserves may still be made at Bowden's.

“AU REVOIR”

PRIVATE P. PALMER ENTERTAINED GATHERING AT WHAN GARAT A Private Peter Palmer, of Whangarata, who was on leave, was entertained in the Whangarata hall last week at a function arranged by the Whangarata Soldiers’ Farewell Committee" The hall was tastefully decorated with wattle, poppies and bunting. The large attendance testified to the popularity of the guest of honour. Dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Mr B. Melhuish of Pokeno, and extras by Mrs F. Walker. Mr Bon Ewing proved an efficient master of ceremonies. Items by Miss Thelma Smeed and Mr Webster were appreciated.

A lovely shoulder spray was presented to Mrs Palme’ 1 , of Auckland, Private Palmer’s mother, by Miss Nessie Smeed. On behalf of the residents of Wliangarala, Mr R. Ewing asked Private Palmer lo accept a money belt, and with il the best wishes of Ids numerous friends for a safe and early return to New Zealand.

The gathering rose and sang "For He's a .lolly Good Fellow.” An appetising supper was served by the ladies.

Proceedings were concluded by the company joining hands and singing “Auld Lang Syne" and Ihe National Anthem.

WOMEN’S DIVISION

PATUIV3AHOE BRANCH REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING The usual monthly meeting of the Patumahoe branch of Hie Women's Division look place in the hall last week, the president, Mrs Slichbury, presiding over a fair attendance of members.

The delegates gave a short report of the Waitemata executive meeting held in Auckland'’and of the proposals put forward at that meeting. Members were asked to co-operate in knitting for the Mercantile Marine, a personal appeal having come from Lord Bledisloe wiUi the request that the Division take over Ibis highly necessary work.

The president gave a most interesting and comprehensive report on tier recent visit to a conference held in Wellington and she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

Gompelition results are: Plain scones, Mrs Irwin J. Mrs Williams 2, Mrs Frazer 3; fruit pudding, Mrs F. Needham I and’2, Mrs Williams 3: preserved plums, Mrs Irwin I, Mrs Williams 2, Mrs F.
