SPORTS CLUBS AMALGAMATE COMPETITION AT MANGATAWHIRI PATRIOTIC FUNDS BENEFIT The Mangalawhiri and Maramarua Sports Clubs recently amalgamated, and the joint club held its first annual sports meeting on Saturday in Mr G. Lyons grounds, Mangalawhiri Valley. Over 600 people attended, and, with the weather good, spent an enjoyable time watching or taking part in a varied programme of ’events. Entries in the mounted competitions were not heavy due largely it is thought to the fact that the. fixture clashed with the annual sports, meeting at Pukekawa, only about, 15 miles distant by road. The catering was in • the hands of the district patriotic organisation, and, as a result,, the patriotic funds will benefit by about £BO, while, they are to he augmented by 75 per cent of the profits from the sports.
