During Ihe lasi few days Idlers ot ll.ie soil have been engaged in planting for autumn crops of potatoes and transplanting cabbage and cauliflower plants for winter use. The rain for them could not have come at a better time for il will give I tie plants a good start on their way. Tanks which supplied water for domestic use were at a low level but now supplies have been replenished and they should just about be sufficient to carry householders on until the autumn rains come.

The position generally from the farmers’ point of view, prior to the rain, was approaching serious proportions and many farmers were becoming alarmed, but any fears they entertained about the future have now been allayed. Although temperatures are cool, warm weather is bound lo follow and with if prolific growth of grass. Generally the change in Ihe weather is appreciated by all. particularly farmers and gardeners.
