QUEEN CARNIVAL

BOMBAY CANDIDATE CHOSEN MISS NONIE REYNOLDS AN ENJOYABLE SOCIAL HELD The Bombay-Paparala Patriotic Committee held a bright and successful function on Wednesday evening last, arranged for the dual purpose of giving the kiddies a holiday treat, and to decide by a further public vote a local candidate for East Princess honours.

The function took the form of a children’s mad-hatter dance and party followed by dancing for adults. Music was supplied by Mr J. Rodger and Master Don Lawrence was master of ceremonies for the children’s session. The grand march brought to light many mad, humorous and cleverly worked hats.

The judges were given a busy few minutes sorting out Hie prize-winners. Results were:—Girls: M. Lawrence and W. Lawrence (equal) 1, D. Lowrie'2, N. Lawrence 3. Boys: R. Lowrie .!, P. Fraser 2, D. Lawrence and P. Green (equal) 3. A children’s Monte Carlo was won by M. Lawrence and P. Green. Items of special delight were provided by Miss Rangi, Molly Mather, Barbara Shotbolt and Dallas Peace, while Mr W. Rangi and his string quartette provided some very fine extras. In the senior section Mrs E. K. Holmes won a competition, while Miss Nancy Reynolds and Mr G. Holmes were successful in the Monte Carlo. Voting for the nominees was spirited throughout the evening. As the popularity of the (fbntestants was so evenly matched, voters other than personal friends or relatives found difficulty in deciding in whose box to drop their coins. The competition concluded with Miss Noni Reynolds first by 132 votes from Miss Beryl Carter who in turn led Mrs A. Donovan by .12 votes, with Miss Ellinor Harris G'i votes further back.

A hearty round of applause and three cheers were accorded each candidate as the final results were announced at about J a.m. A tidy little sum lias resulted from this competition which should provide a strong argument in favour of Miss Reynolds becoming eventually Hast. Princess.
