WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

THE BUCKLAND BRANCH NOVEMBER MEETING HELD owing to sickness and ensilagemaking there were not as many members present at the November meeting of the Bucktand Women’s Institute as usual. Mrs C. Butcher presided. It was decided In enter an exhibit in tin* proposed patriotic display of work at the A. and P. Society’s show next February. Arrangements were made to have the children's party as last you'. Some of the ladies offered to help look after children in a trip to the zoo. Members were reminded of Mrs Atmore's talk on the Women's Auxiliary on December b. A knitted quilt made by Mrs Lloyd was won by Mrs A. P. Horne and netted ft lbs for patriotic funds. Miss Piggot gave a very interesting reading on the life, as a lad, of Mr Winston Gliureiiilt, Britain’s Prime Minister, who did not love school yet rose lo be famous. Miss Piggot was thanked. The secretary's report of the annual conference of the Auckland District Federation of Institutes was read by Mrs Butcher. A very full report of Dr. Doris Gordon's talk on "The need of an up-to-date obstetrical hospital for Auckland” was also read, ami it was decided to support this project. Gompelilions resulted: A Ghristmas novelty. Mrs Walker 1, Mrs Lloyd 2; basket of flower's. Mrs Graham 1 : jug of (lowers. Mrs Graham I. Mrs Butcher ■) : bun voyage box. Mrs Lloyd I. Mrs Butcher thanked the hostess, Mrs Lewis, and helpers. The Garden Circle The garden circle met at Mrs liendry's residence. Mrs Graham gave valuable advice when answering a question by each member about their particular' gardening difficulties. Mrs Hendry’s garden was much admired, after which a visit was made to the school gardens. These wore found to he in good order also. After the lea adjournment Mrs Graham thanked the hostess for a very pleasant afternoon.
