This offer was accepted, and, I as the counter staff exceedingly 1 busy the customer was directed to I the pay-desk with his threepenny coin I to get his penny change. He went to! the pay clerk, said he had been told! to get a penny change, on a purchased received the copper, and coolly walked;! out of the shop—with the matches?! his own threepenny coin, and the! penny he had received from tlie pay-! clerk. It was only afterwards, ini checking up, that the impositiou. <ij wajj! revealed.
